From Holiday Market Giveaway Winner to Birthday Milestone Magic | Family Photographer Troy, Ohio
Some sessions come together in the most unexpected ways, and this one started with a little holiday magic.
Back in December, I had the joy of being a vendor at the local holiday market, and as part of the experience, I offered a complimentary session giveaway. When this mama won, I could not wait to see how she would use it. She came to me with a vision: a handful of sibling photos to treasure, and milestone portraits to celebrate her daughter turning four next month.
Planning the Perfect Session In Troy, Ohio
One of my favorite parts of the process is the discovery call. Before we ever step in front of a camera, we sit down to talk through your vision, your family’s personality, and what you want to walk away with. For this session, that conversation helped us map out exactly how the day would flow. Sibling portraits first while everyone was fresh and together, then a dedicated milestone segment once it was just the birthday girl.
After the discovery call, I did some location scouting to find the right fit for this Troy, Ohio family. We landed on The Loft on Lincoln, a local studio space with a clean, timeless feel. It gave us a beautiful, distraction-free environment that let the kids and the connection between them take center stage.
The Session Day
Mom and Dad arrived together with their two little ones: a son under a year old and their daughter, three years old and just weeks away from her fourth birthday. There is something so sweet about sibling photos at this age. The way a big sister looks at her baby brother, the way he reaches for her, those are the moments I live for as a family photographer in Troy, Ohio.
Once we wrapped up the sibling portraits, Dad headed home with the baby, and that is when the session shifted into something truly special. With just the birthday girl and her mama, the energy settled into something bold and fun. She came alive in front of the camera, confident, curious, and full of personality. We captured the kind of portraits she will show off at her birthday party next month, send to grandparents, and maybe even turn into invitations. The kind that get framed and passed around and talked about, because she will not be three forever.
