Fall Family Activities in Troy, Ohio: A Local Fall Bucket List

Looking for fall family activities in Troy, Ohio? Fall is one of my favorite times of year to enjoy the area with kids β€” and it doesn’t have to mean filling every weekend with expensive activities or spending hours in the car.

Some of my favorite fall memories are the simple ones: picking out pumpkins, planting mums together, staying up a little later for a backyard bonfire, or taking a walk just to see how many colorful leaves we can find.

There are also plenty of fall events and family-friendly activities in Troy and the surrounding Miami County area worth adding to your calendar.

So I’ve put together a list of local fall events, nearby farms and seasonal outings, plus simple fall activities you can do at home.

And don’t worry β€” you definitely don’t have to do them all.

Pick a few that sound fun for your family and enjoy the season.

September 26–27 | Tipp City Community Park

The Tipp City Mum Festival is a longtime local fall tradition featuring vendors, arts and crafts, food, entertainment, and, of course, plenty of mums.

Mom’s idea: Make a morning of it, let the kids pick out a treat, and bring home a mum or two for the front porch.

If your kids have a sweet tooth, this one is pretty easy to get excited about.

πŸŽƒ Fall Farms, Pumpkins & Seasonal Outings Near Troy

You don’t always need a special event to make a fall memory.

A trip to a local farm, pumpkin patch, or even your child’s school PTO sale can be enough.

Visit a local fall farm

Brumbaugh Fruit & Fun Farm and Crossway Farms are two nearby options to check out when you’re looking for seasonal farm activities.

Before heading out, check each farm’s website or social media for current hours, activities, admission prices, and weather-related updates.

Check your school’s PTO

This one is easy to overlook, but don’t forget about your local elementary school PTO.

Many schools have fall mum or pumpkin sales, and they can be an inexpensive way to support your school while bringing a little bit of fall home.

We’re planning to get our pumpkins from our local PTO sale this year β€” and they’re only $1 each!

For us, that means we’ll have pumpkins for painting, decorating, and carving without spending a fortune.

Sometimes the simplest option really is the best one.

πŸ‚ Simple Fall Activities to Do at Home With Kids

Not every fall memory needs a reservation, admission fee, or a 30-minute drive.

Honestly, some of my favorite fall activities for kids are the ones that can happen on a random afternoon at home.

Pick out and plant mums together

Let the kids help choose the colors and get their hands dirty planting them.

It’s a simple activity, but they’ll get to see something they helped plant throughout the season.

Paint or carve pumpkins

You don’t have to wait until Halloween.

Grab a few inexpensive pumpkins and let the kids paint them, decorate them with stickers, or turn them into whatever their imaginations come up with.

Then save the carving for closer to Halloween.

Have a backyard bonfire and make s’mores

This is one of my favorites.

It gets dark earlier in the fall, so the kids think they’re getting to stay up way past bedtime when you’re really just sitting around a fire at 7:30.

Add some s’mores, blankets, and a chilly evening, and you’ve got yourself a pretty great fall night.

Make a fall basket

This could be a fun little family tradition at the beginning of the season.

It doesn’t have to be elaborate.

For our family, I’m planning a small basket with things like:

  • Fall pajamas
  • A couple of fall books
  • A Tonie or two
  • A small seasonal treat like popcorn

Then we can pull things from the basket throughout the season.

Go on a fall walk

You don’t need a destination.

Take a walk around your neighborhood or head to a nearby park and see what you can find.

Look for:

  • The first changing leaves
  • Acorns
  • Different colored leaves
  • Pumpkins on front porches
  • Birds and other animals
  • Signs that Halloween is getting closer

For little kids, you can even turn it into a simple fall scavenger hunt.

Have a fall movie night

Put on pajamas, make some popcorn, pick a favorite movie, and call it a night.

No elaborate activity required.

Bake something together

Apple muffins, pumpkin bread, cookies, cinnamon rolls β€” whatever your family actually likes.

The goal isn’t Pinterest-worthy baking.

It’s letting the kids help, making a mess, and eating something delicious afterward.
